How To Get Free Multitracks For Mixing Practice

How To Get Free Multitracks For Your Mixing Practice

To get better at any skill we need to practice.

Whether you’re a musician practising an instrument or a golfer practising their swing, practice makes perfect.

I have issues with the word “perfect” when it comes to mixing because I don’t think such a thing exists but you get the point.

Now, if you are regularly recording your own, or your clients work in your home studio then you’ll likely have a good stock of multitracks to practise with but what if you wanted to try your hand at a genre you haven’t mixed before so you can expand your mixing knowledge?

Fortunately, there are some great websites that offer free multitracks for you to download and mix.

Two of my favourites are the Pro Mix Academy (affiliate link) and the Produce Like A Pro Academy both of which are incredible resources for music production education. I’m a member of both and regularly visit them to keep my mixing knowledge up to date and relevant. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Then, for the shear amount of free multitracks across every genre imaginable, you can’t beat the Cambridge Music technology website by Mike Senior from Sound On Sound.

Mixing multitracks regularly is probably the single most important thing you can do to get better at the craft.

Schedule time to mix sessions that will stretch you, either by them having a long list of tracks or them being in a genre you’ve never mixed before so you can get out of your comfort zone!
